The property is located on the North Side of the South Toe River in beautiful Celo, North Carolina. There is a magical spot where three creeks converge, hence the name. The land is currently being stewarded by  mycologists, foragers, chefs, farmers, gardeners, and builders. This place has sparkles.

Existing Infrastructure includes:

  • 1,500 sq. ft. doublewide mobile home ("The Moth House") with wood floors, good insulation, and wrap around covered porch. Built in 2006. Three bedrooms, two baths.

  • A large metal barn with shared wood shop/tool zone (ping pong!) and plenty of storage, available to all residents who pay a portion of utilities.

  • An off-grid 360 sq. ft. tiny house.

  • Small tool storage shed available to all residents.

  • Small greenhouse available to all residents.

  • Mature fruit and nut trees (mulberry, chestnut, black walnut, apple, fig, etc.)

    • I have oral reports that no chemicals have been used on the property; some NPK and lime was used in the last 40 years. The property has historically been farmed.

  • 2 large chicken coops and communal laying hens, with shared chicken chores (optional).

  • Carport available to all residents.

  • 5.19 acres of mostly flat, south facing land right across the street from the most beautiful river in the world (biased but true!)

    • We currently garden on about 1/4 acre, and have plenty of space available for everyone to have their own garden plot or a shared garden, depending on your preference.

Please note that Celo is a 1 hour drive from Asheville, and about 20 minutes from Burnsville. If you must commute into town everyday and aren't already used to this kind of driving, we would strongly encourage you factor this in when considering relocating.

What We're Looking For

The spaces that are available currently are detailed below. All residents will need to be good at communicating and meeting their own needs for privacy. Although we live in a rural area, we do have a fluid, and safe, in and out of good people. We work together to make sure everyone who lives here's safety and comfort are centered, including instating community boundaries that accommodate the 'lowest common denominator' of people's requests and desires to protect each other.

We want to find the RIGHT person(s), as this will be an intimate living situation and we want to care for and trust our neighbors and landmates. And, we want to find folks who find a real value in the infrastructure that you would have access to, have experience and desire to actively partake in their own food growing, and openness to sharing the maintenance of livestock and garden responsibilities. We all take shifts with mowing/weed whacking duties during the spring, summer and fall seasons to collectively help keep the jungle at bay. Although we're not REQUIRING any labor as part of the exchange, we will have a strong preference for renters who understand, have experience with, and desire for this lifestyle. There are always optional chicken rearing chores (in exchange for eggs) and opportunities to participate in the garden for collective food growing.

Ideally, we're looking for folks who would like to share growth and ownership in this project with us. But, let's get to know each other first!

About the Land Stewards

“We have lived by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world ... And now, perhaps very close to too late, our great error has become clear. It is not only our own creativity - our own capacity for life - that is stifled by our arrogant assumption; the creation itself is stifled.
We have been wrong. We must change our lives, so that it will be possible to live by the contrary assumption that what is good for the world will be good for us. And that requires that we make the effort to know the world and to learn what is good for it." - Wendell Berry

The residents at Triple Creeks are farmers, social justice activists, builders, jedi masters, artists, body workers, and all around RAD people. We love our land family. We also share the land with two dogs and one cat, who are owned by various landmates.

We're excited to get to know you!

So... Wanna chat?

If you got to this point and you're still interested, HOORAY! At the very least we've each found a new friend.

Please email us the answers to the following questions at hello@triplecreeks.org. You can answer them together with someone who you'd be sharing the space with, or separately as you see fit. We will be actively seeking renters until the room is filled; we are hoping to identify someone no later than September 1, 2024.

1. Name three things that bring you joy.

2. What are you seeking in a home?

3. Do you come with any animal friends, or are you hoping to obtain some in the next year? - Note no animals will be considered for the tiny house space.

4. Do you have a solid source of income that would allow you to live in this area? Please explain.

5. What is your connection with Yancey County or Celo, if any? - Please note we will be prioritizing people who have an existing relationship with the local area and therefore willing to sign an extended lease term, for the tiny house space.

6. What is your experience living in communal situations?

7. What is your experience living off-grid or in alternative living situations?

8. What will you bring to this shared land projects? What are your gifts in this world?

9. What is your relationship with garden and land stewardship?

And, please provide three references who have lived with you or around you before. In the circumstance that it seems like I good fit, we will also provide you with references for you to check up on, and happily answer any or all of these questions, or any others you'd like to know!
